Pompeii

Hello students in Mrs. Vinson's language arts classes! You are studying an interesting subject today. Pompeii is an extinct city. Mount Vesuvius erupted on a Tuesday, August 24 in AD 79. The eruption began with a small explosion and a thin layer of ash between 9-10 a.m. A massive explosion happened at 1 p.m., emitting a huge eruption cloud.
What other facts do you know?
When you blog, be sure to put your first name and last initial on your post to get credit for this portion of your assignment.
You may use encyclopedias, book resources, Galileo or Encarta to find more information.
You may also use the notes taken during the Discovery video shown through our data projector.
Good luck!

When the ash hardened it made cast of the bodies in Pompeii.Scientist now realize that the bodies have no evidence of injury on the body's or that they were trapped or crushed. they also think the people of Pompeii may have been buried alive.

The story of Pompeii is terrifying. I would hate to be in that situation.Toxic gas filled the air and killed anyone who didn't leave or was crushed by the huge rocks.
The ones who left took their most valable things.Including marble slabs from the floor.
Mount Vesuvious was truely unleashing his fury that day!

When Vesuvius erupted in AD 1879 some were scared to flee Pompeii. But,my intersting fact is that nobody in Pompeii knew that Vesuvius was a volcano they thought it was a regular mountain. That's amazing.

When Pompeii erupted in 79 A.D, it was so fast that molds were made around the people, animals, and buildings. Plaster was poured into the ash molds to re-create the scenery of that day. Since then, there have been twelve more eruptions of Vesuvius.

When Vesuvius erupted it was the type of eruption that only happens every 2,000-5,000 years. It was a molten rock eruption, which would actually be called an explosion in this case.
As it erupted toxic gas from Vesuvius covered all of Pompeii killing many people in its path.
The lava, ash,and rock from vesuvius was over 1,000 degrees F. It killed many people of Pompeii and that day will always be remembered.
